Recently I was asked to recommend some books for computer geeks, software developer and engineers, etc moving into management. Here is the list I came up with. The books on this list have definitely helped my career over time.

Peopleware: Productive Projects and Teams, 2nd Ed., by Tom Demarco, Timothy R. Lister

Rapid Development: Taming Wild Software Schedules by Steve C McConnell

Software Project Survival Guide by Steve C McConnell

Dynamics of Software Development by Jim McCarthy, Denis Gilbert

Debugging the Development Process: Practical Strategies for Staying Focused, Hitting Ship Dates, and Building Solid Teams by Steve Maguire

Don't forget the ever popular '...for Dummies' books. Especially "Computer Geeks are Dummies," recently published by Ura Dork.

I haven't read of that book? Have you read it?

'I haven't read of that book?' Well, obviously you meant you haven't HEARD of that book, because the first chapter is about avoiding IDIOTIC typos. =)

So why it is you assume I have never HEARD of the book simply because I had a typo in my last comment? I may have HEARD of the book and still never read it. And I may have HEARD of the book and still not know the chapters of the book. That said, I still have not read the book. And even if I had I would not be immune to typos.

Speaking of mistakes in comments. "ever popular '...for Dummies' books" is followed by "are Dummies." How is it that "are Dummies" books are part of the same "for Dummies" book series? Seems to me that books about dummies would be different than books for dummies.

Um...I don't think I can equal the amount of thought you put into that. I'm touched you care so much.
